Frequently Asked Questions about WYB Fall Ball

Q: Why should my son play baseball in the Fall?

A: WYB Fall Baseball gives players who love the game more chances to play baseball and have fun with their friends. In addition, for the majority of players, it allows them to “move up” to a bigger field in preparation for the following Spring.

Q: Who moves up?

For example, if your child was playing in the Low Minors (8 year olds) division in Spring 2018, for this Fall Ball season, they will be promoted to the Minors League and play on the bigger field (Minors and TRF). Likewise, recent Coach Pitch players (6 year olds) will play in Low Minors for Fall, and recent Minors players (currently 10 years old) can graduate to the Majors programs, where the bases are further apart (70 feet vs. 60 feet).

Q: Still confused? What division should your child play at?

A: The online registration system will automatically select the correct division based on your child’s birthdate. Play-up requests must be approved by the league by sending an email to [email protected].

Q: When does the season start? When are the games scheduled?

A: Games are played every Sunday, with the first game scheduled for Sunday, September 9th. Games start between 12 noon to 4pm. The season will run through Sunday, November 11th. Weather permitting, each team will play an 8 game season.

Q: Where are the games played?

A: All Quickball through 8’s are played at Barness Park. Depending on the number of teams that are created at the Minors and Majors divisions, WYB will make the decision whether we will need to combine with other leagues in the area to make sure there is enough teams to play against each other. In the past, this has included leagues such as Warwick, Doylestown, Plumstead, and Deep Run. If we do combine leagues, half of the games will be played at home, and the other half at the away field. From past experience, the kids do enjoy traveling to other field locations and all of them are local to the surrounding townships.

Q: What does the practice schedule look like?

A: Typically, coaches schedule several practices during the first few weeks, and then practices become less frequent as the season continues. Now that WYB has lights, practices will be able to be scheduled later in the season, and while coaches can schedule additional practices, they are keeping in mind that Fall Ball is intended to be more relaxed and developmental in nature.

Q: Can my son play with their friends? What about car-pooling requests?

A: While we can’t guarantee team placement, the player/draft process is intended to honor specific requests to make sure that transportation issues are addressed, as well as “friend requests”. However, in the spirit of fair play, we will attempt to balance the teams as much as possible, so unfortunately we cannot guarantee all requests.

Q: Are there playoffs in Fall Ball?

A: No, there are no playoffs. Fall Ball is intended to be fun for the players so they can enjoy the game and further develop their skills. For those players looking for a more competitive opportunity, WYB offers a competitive travel program and more information can be accessed here.

Q: Great, how do I register?
